Gozo Traditional Food & Drink

Unwind in Gozo and enjoy the best food and wine this tiny island has to offer. Look out for the traditional village bakeries to get an authentic ‘ftira’, which is a type of traditional local bread. Alternatively, just sit back and relax in one of the many restaurants.

Gozitan cuisine promotes the small and local. Make sure you do not leave the island before tasting the traditional sheep milk cheeses known as gbejniet, a local favourite, or the savoury pastizzi – miniature pastries which are filled either with peas or with ricotta cheese. Another must is to enjoy some fresh bread accompanied by local olive oil. We also strongly suggest you experience other delicacies ripened by the Mediterranean sun such as the local sun-dried tomatoes.

Wash down all the delicacies Gozo has to offer with one of their distinctive Gozitan wines and craft beer. Thanks to its climate, Gozo offers round-bodied, fruity wines with good structure. We suggest you visit one of the agricultural holdings that offer popular tours and tastings.
